Negligee All Day

There are so many new trends coming through right now with NYFW coming to a head. My poor fashion heart can’t take it. Neither can my poor fashion wallet; and I mean poor in a more literal way on that latter statement. But here is another one for you to add to your ‘Must Try’ List: Negligee all day.

Lets open up those closed doors and bring out our sexy nighties for day time use, in a way that won’t get us the wrong kind of attention on the streets. Some of us are more brave then others e.g. Victoria Beckham in this Louis Vuitton silk ‘dress’ (?) looks like something I have from Victoria’s Secret.

If you feel as though you can pull that one off then go for it girl. However, I want to take a more realistic approach to attacking this sexy trend. Sofia Sanchez; who also happens to be in a Louis Vuitton silk dress, looks very chic yet not too sexed up in this floor length rendition.

Another approach is much less risqué yet still very fashion forward. I am talking about the pajama sets that are street worthy. I adore every look that Vogue chose to showcase in its September issue (Sleepwalkers p. 558). Nylon Mag also had a great spread about trying out this boudoir trend (Sleep No More p.130).

Here are some street-worthy pajama looks to inspire you.

A Jumpsuit For Every Shape

Jumpsuits and Rompers have been in the spotlight much too much for me to pass up an opportunity to teach you a few tricks. That being said many people believe they don’t have the right shape for this attire. I want to tell you that there is hope! Don’t give up your love for this garment just yet, as there is one for every one of you!

First you must take a look at this chart and praise the shape you are, because it is perfect.

Inverted Triangle
Because of your broad shoulders we want to highlight your hips to make them seem as broad as your shoulders. Do not clutter your upper half. Keep it minimal up top while accentuate that booty by belting your mid. Peplum details will work wonders for you.

Avoid thick straps and halter tops as they will draw attention to your shoulders. Try and avoid patterns on top. Don’t clutter your neck with scarves and thick jewelry. Keep it simple up there.

Column Shape (rectangle)
It is crucial for you to make yourself a waistline. Do this by wearing high-waisted bottoms and wearing tops with broad shoulders, for example a blazer with shoulder pads. If you choose to wear a blazer though, make sure it does not end around your stomach. Make it a long blazer that ends at your hips.

Avoid figure hugging garments and long straight lines. Get garments with structure and don’t get anything shapeless. When shopping for structured garments try not to get anything too bulky.

Hourglass
Girl work your curves. There is not much you can’t pull off, and there’s not many who don’t envy what your mama gave you. If there is any advice to give it is to show off what you’ve got and get brave with it. Accentuate your ASSets (ha) by cinching at the waist with a belt or tie.

Oval Shape (diamond or round)
For your shape you will want to create the illusion of the hourglass by wearing garments that give you a good waist. Keep your clothing line straight. You want garments that are light weight so you don’t add any bulk to your stomach and bust area. Keep detail around your stomach simple. Give your shoulders attention with a flutter, cap sleeve, or padded shoulder.

Avoid wearing belts of any size. Try and find garments with sleeves that end anywhere BUT the bust area. Try to avoid detail in the bust, stomach and hip area and don’t buy garments that end in your fuller areas.

Pear Shape (triangle)
Girl let me first say, I am jealous of that booty. Although it really is something, you’re going to want to balance out your broad hips by accentuating your shoulders. Try and find coats and blazers that end above or below your hips. Color, pattern and bulky jewelry are a must for your top half only.

Avoid flared leg lines and cropped pants. Don’t go heavy on the detail for your bottom half, like color and pattern. Mini skirts are not your friend and neither are pencil skirts. Don’t cut your legs in half with ankle strap heels or booties. Make those legs look long with pumps.

Top 10 Must haves from Vogue; The September Issue

As I skimmed the pages of the Holy Fashion Bible (Vogue; September Issue) I fell in love and lust with so many people, places, events and of course items. I discovered new brands that I want to experience for myself and encourage others to try, such as; The Elder Statesman, with its array of perfect knitwear and Master and Muse; the line of ‘ethical and environmentally responsible fashion’.

I myself hope that in the next life I will get to experience a Gatsby inspired soirée filled with beautiful feathered and jeweled gowns, great music of the roaring 20’s and the feeling of a different time and place in this world. I pray to one day cover my face with only the most beautifully jeweled mask and guess at whom I might be talking to. I dream of a night full of exotic masked men and women; amongst them Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Just once in my life, before I gracefully croak, I must will this experience into my life.

Yes, all of these things were subconsciously added to my very long list of things to experience, however, I also made another list that is just slightly less appealing yet much more attainable to me. This is my list of must haves from this September issue. PS. I’m already saving for 3 in particular! Can you guess which ones?

1. Eva Mendez is collaborating with New York and Company and I absolutely love the camel blazer she is wearing. It is the perfect mens blazer/coat that is so on trend.

#2 H&M had a really nice spread through the center of this issue and I fell in love with nearly everything but 2 pieces in particular. The first one being this super slouchy and cozy turtleneck sweater. I would love to pair this with my white jeans and electric blue heels.

#3 My second must have from H&M is this super hot moto vest. I would throw this over a black long sleeve v neck with a feather mini skirt. Finish it off with a sexy fall maroon wedge and I'll be ready to take on the world.... or maybe just Seattle... for now.

#4 These amazing outfit polishers are so out of my reach; a girl can dream though! These Lanvin statement necklaces are a beautiful edition to a simple tee look with a super sexy leather jacket (my faves are from All Saints)! Anyone want to get me one?

#5 I saw these lovely things in a sexy black and white ad by 7 For All Mankind. These would be perfect with a sleeveless white button up and a sophisticated pair of sandal strap heels.

#6 Ok so maybe I am just an over supportive army wife but I have been dying to find the perfect shade of army green polish. It's for my most patriotic days when I am feeling extra in love with my soldier. This Zoya nail lacquer is exactly what I have been unable to find for so long.
#7 A piece of luxury doesn't always come easy for those of us who can't afford quality items, so when Target does collaborations with the fashion worlds hottest designers, trust that I will be in the front of the line. This black 3.1 Phillip Lim bag is perfect for any occasion. I personally can't wait to pair it with my high waisted Vince jeans, white button up, red lips and the 3.1 Phillip Lim 'Boom' silk scarf that will also be sold at Target.
#8 Has anyone smelled this new yummy scent by Marc Jacobs? It's delicious, and as a Marc Jacobs fragrance collector I will definitely be adding this to my shelf.
#9 I absolutely love this entire add. It's vibe is so art deco chic and I personally am considering cutting my hair like this. I am also considering adding this fuzzed out zipper front bomber jacket from TopShop to my permanent fall wardrobe and it looks comfy enough to possibly add it to my sleepwear as well. I am in love.

#10 A 50th Birthday to match Hamish Bowles Gatsby Bash (a never fading dream of mine)
